When Does Sharing Become Oversharing?

At what point do you think public postings become "oversharing?"  Whether it's a blog, social media, or whatever?

For me it depends on a few things. I don't want to share anything that would open me up to identity theft or other crimes.  I don't want to tell other people's personal business that they might not want shared.  I'm not online to betray anybody's trust, or embarrass anyone.  And I try not to dwell on negative content in my posts.  We all have bad days.  But I don't want it to become the overall "theme" of what I post.

I was reading some social media postings today, and I've just about decided that some people have no limits whatsoever.  They share the most intimate details of their personal lives, medical information, etc.  They share details of arguments with loved ones.  They publically bash other people who are not around to defend themselves.

Aren't some of these types of discussions better suited to a one on one conversation with a close friend rather than sharing it with hundreds or potentially thousands...or maybe more?

What do you think?

Until Next Time...
