A Someday List
Do you have a Someday List? A someday list would be sort of like a bucket list. But it's perhaps a bit less serious, a bit less long term, and more subject to change. It's just a list of things you'd like to do....someday.
I'm a day dreamer. I don't say that to imply that I'm irresponsible. I'm anything but. But, I am, and always have been, a day dreamer. I use my imagination. And I'm planner. I DO have a someday list. Well, it's not written down... at least not yet. But it's in my head. And I am always editing it and adding to it. I think lots of people do this. Lots of those items people pin to their pinterest pages would be on their "someday list" I think.
As part of my day dreaming, I come up with all sorts of plans of things I'd like to do "someday." In my mind I have plans to redo every room in my house. Some of those plans may change before I get to actually work on that room. But the basic plans are in my mind...
When I say I want to do something "someday" I AM serious about it. But that doesn't mean I'm going to do it today, or next week...but eventually. Will I do ALL those things eventually? Not likely. But they are always there, as ideas of what I'd LIKE to do. Some ideas, like painting my bedroom another color, are highly likely to happen. Other ideas, like a week long trip to a very expensive spa might be less likely...due to cost, or convincing someone to come along. But who knows? They may both happen one of these days. Then there are dreams that are just not totally within my control. So, I don't know if they will happen. I hope they do.
But here's the thing. Little by little I'm learning not to express my "somedays" to other people. When I do, they seem to then drive me crazy constantly asking if I've done it yet. I don't need someone to make me feel like a failure because I haven't gotten to one of my dreams yet. I think it's okay to let something be a dream for a while. It's okay to have plans to look forward to.
How about you? Are you able to express your "somedays" to others without regretting that you mentioned it?
Until Next Time....

R.I.P. Shirley Temple
I woke up this morning, flipped the TV on to the morning news, and started my day with the sad news that Shirley Temple Black had passed away. (continued after the video).
When I was a little girl, tv was quite different than it is now. There were no DVRs, DVD players or VCRs. We had no cable tv, no "on demand" and no internet streaming. Our television only had three channels...well, 4 if you count PBS. And stations went "off the air" late at night.
Weekend programing was very different than what was shown during the week. But midday on Saturday and Sunday at least one of the stations would often be playing an old black and white movie. And boy, was I happy when they chose a movie staring Shirley Temple! In my mind, it wasn't an "old movie"... I saw a happy, singing little girl "about my age." And I loved it. I have no idea how many Shirley Temple movies I watched.
This was in the 70's when she was actually all grown up, and an ambassador. My mother explained to me, and showed me pictures of the adult Shirley Temple. Then, my Mom told me that she, too, had watched Shirley Temple movies as a little girl.
My mother's favorite Shirley Temple movie was Heidi. She told me she had fallen in love with the snow globe Heidi had (and broke) in the movie. My mother had asked Santa for one for Christmas...but never got her snow globe like Heidi's.
At the time my mother told me the story, I had not yet seen Heidi. Being the 1970's, I thought of snow globes as being plastic domes that were flat on the back...often with a blue background. It seemed to be the only kind that was ever seen during that time period. But my mother explained that Heidi's snow globe was real glass and shaped like a sphere.
One day, at the mall I saw a snow globe in a toy store that was like my mother had described. A real glass snow globe! I saved my money and gave my mother that snow globe for Christmas. My mother cried and treasured that snow globe. In later years, I would see bigger, finer glass snow globes. But that first one was special. Even though I no longer have my Mom, I still have that round glass snow globe, and its precious memories.
In recent years, a dear friend tells a story of an encounter with Shirley Temple Black while shopping in Los Angeles, and how very lovely she still was.
Rest in Peace, Shirley Temple. My childhood wouldn't have been the same without you.
Until Next Time....

What Goes with This?
Good Morning!
What color are you wearing today? Or do you wear color at all?
I've always been good about wearing colored tops...and sometimes dresses. But I must admit, for many years it was black dress pants, black capris, black casual pants, black skirts, black yoga pants, black leggings, black tights...black, black, black on the bottom!
Why? Well, I know many women are guilty of wearing lots of black to make themselves look thinner. And as a woman who struggles with her weight, maybe I'm guilty of a bit of that too. But there is more going on...
1. Black goes with everything! If I'm wearing black pants, I can just choose the top I want to wear and not put so much thought into "what color goes with this?"
2. I just plain like black...especially when combined with a pretty bright jewel toned something.
3. Black somehow looks dressier...and more expensive than the same thing in another color!
And yet, I'm getting tired of seeing myself in so much of the same. So for the last year or so I've been making an effort to get more "bottoms" that are not black. Some are other neutrals like taupe, or chocolate brown, or dark wash denim... but some are actual colors like peacock green, aqua, and coral. But you know what? I DO sometimes find myself not so sure "what goes with this" or wearing the same top with something all the time because it's the only one I'm sure of.
But, I want to do better. So how do you incorporate lots of color into your wardrobe and make it easier to figure out "what goes with this? What top can one wear with a red skirt?
Until Next Time...

Delightfully Distracted
Welcome to my New Home on the Web!
I'm a single Southern born, college educated "Mom" to one puppy princess. Or at least she thinks she's a princess. I'm filled with contradictions. I love vintage and vintage styling in clothes, houses and many other things...but also adore modern conveniences and technology.
I'm interested in good health...but some of my favorite foods are not so healthy. I believe one's work should not be one's identity...and yet, I believe you are blessed if you have a job you can love. I believe it's important to vote. But if you want to talk politics...don't talk to me. It bores me to no end. And I have no tolerance for those who try to use it to pick arguments.
I believe each person has the right to their own religious beliefs...but that doesn't mean I believe all those beliefs are correct. I don't watch sports of any kind. I enjoy crafts...but am no Martha Stewart, and often take a renegade approach to my crafts rather than following directions. I love books, and magazines, and movies and I love to travel every chance I get (which is not often enough!)..
I believe in God, I believe in the golden rule...I believe in education...and I believe in good manners. I believe common sense is too uncommon these days. I believe actions speak louder than words. I think I'm a good friend...and a good employee. And there is so much going on in my mind, that I decided to make a space to relocate some of those thoughts to the web.
What will this blog be about? It will be about those little thoughts running through my head on a given day...my "distractions." So....time will tell.
Until Next Time...I'm...
